Campbell: Lions' Sam LaPorta has 'outside shot' of playing Sunday
Detroit Lions head coach Dan Campbell told media members Monday that rookie tight end Sam LaPorta (knee) has an "outside shot" of playing in the team's Wild Card Round playoff game on Sunday.
LaPorta suffered what initially appeared to be a season-ending knee injury during the Lions' Week 18 win, but testing after the game fortunately revealed that the breakout rookie avoided an ACL injury. Still, LaPorta is dealing with a bone bruise and a hyperextended knee, making him iffy for the team's upcoming playoffs game.
LaPorta finished his first regular season with some record-setting receiving marks, catching 86 passes for 889 yards and 10 touchdowns. The former Hawkeyes tight end found instant success in the NFL and will hopefully return for his team before too long.
