Steelers preparing for existence after Ben Roethlisberger
The Pittsburgh Steelers have "to be prepared" for what happens after quarterback Ben Roethlisberger's tenure in the league, general manager Kevin Colbert said.
That said, Colbert does not think Roethlisberger is done. "I think there’s a lot of football left," Colbert qualified. "I see a lot of fire. I see much more fire than I do resignation." Heading into his age-35 season, Roethlisberger told the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette he is undecided on his playing future after this season. Even if he decides to keep going, the Steelers need a quality backup plan behind the injury-prone starter. They hope that fourth-round rookie Josh Dobbs becomes that plan, and he will start the preseason opener Friday night.
Whatever the future holds, our models project Roethlisberger as the ninth-best quarterback for fantasy football this season, with 4,025 passing yards, 32.05 touchdowns, and 11.20 interceptions on 541 attempts.
