5 NHL FanDuel Values to Target on 3/5/20
If you follow the NHL, you already know all of the top players. Obviously, when playing DFS, those players will come at a high cost. In this article, we are looking to find the cheaper value plays to help you afford the superstars
David Krejci, Center, Boston Bruins
FanDuel Price: $5,000
It was assumed after the Boston Bruins acquired some forwards near the deadline that the second line would be much better. And while it is stronger, they've spread the talent across the second and third lines relatively evenly.
David Krejci is centering Ondrej Kase and Nick Ritchie in what is still a strong line, but it could be more stacked. Krejci has a modest 41 points in 58 games, and this line remains in tact on the team's second power-play unit, which gives them full-game correlation as a stack.
Jakub Vrana, Winger, Washington Capitals
FanDuel Price: $5,200
Jakub Vrana has already surpassed his career-high in goals (25) and points (51). In addition to that, his 181 shots on goal are fantastic, and his 13.8 percent shooting percentage is similar to last year's clip, so shooting more has turned into more goals.
Vrana is now playing pretty regularly on the Washington Capitals' top power-play unit, which is great because being on the ice with Alex Ovechkin is always a plus. The Capitals are visiting the New York Rangers -- a team that has allowed 18 goals in the five games since Igor Shesterkin went down with an injury.
Alex DeBrincat, Winger, Chicago Blackhawks
FanDuel Price: $4,600
It has definitely been a disappointing season for Alex DeBrincat after he netted 40 goals and piled up 70-plus points last season. With just 16 goals and 40 points in 66 games this campaign, he is not going to come close to matching his marks from last year's impressive season. However, he has a great matchup tonight against the Edmonton Oilers.
One big issue for DeBrincat is that he has rarely played with Patrick Kane, but DeBrincat has been spending a good chunk of time on the top power-play unit, which will always allow him to have reasonable upside. DeBrincat is the third-best point-per-dollar winger, per our projections.
Ryan Suter, Defense, Minnesota Wild
FanDuel Price: $4,900
At the tender age of 35, Ryan Suter is on pace for his best offensive total. Suter is on track for 9 goals and 56 points, though his shot and block volume is definitely down. Suter is playing on the top power-play unit, with Jared Spurgeon on the point, as the Minnesota Wild are among the few teams left that roll with two defensemen on their power play.
The power play would normally be a huge perk, but the one issue is that the Wild are visiting the San Jose Sharks, the team with the best penalty kill in the NHL. Suter has been getting on the scoresheet a lot lately, with six points in his last seven games.
Semyon Varlamov, Goaltender, New York Islanders
FanDuel Price: $7,800
This seems like an egregious underpricing here. Semyon Varlamov has a matchup against the Ottawa Senators. The Sens have scored just 2.56 goals per game since January 1st, which is tied for the third-fewest in the NHL. On top of that, the New York Islanders are -160 road favorites.
Varlamov is the third-best point-per-dollar goaltender, according to our projections, and he is listed as the 11th-most expensive goalie. The value here is clear, and Varlamov is sporting a .916 percent save percentage and a 2.56 goals against average.
