Steven Matz, P, New York Mets

FanDuel Price: $9,700

Why He Will Go Overlooked:

Jon Lester, Matt Shoemaker, and Michael Fulmer are likely to be the popular options at pitcher today, which will leave Steven Matz underowned.

Why You Should Use Him:

Despite struggling a bit in his most recent start, Matz's 40.1 FanDuel points per start this season still leads the slate. Prior to his last start, Matz had a string of seven starts with 39-plus FanDuel points, during which he averaged 51 FanDuel points and had a 1.13 ERA. Not bad.

On the season, Matz has a 2.60 ERA, which is backed up by his 3.03 xFIP. He has also posted impressive strikeout numbers with 53 punchouts in 55.1 innings.

I'm not going to lie to you and tell you that his matchup today is as inviting as Lester's or Shoemaker's. The Pirates can hit lefties, as evidenced by their fifth-ranked .343 wOBA against southpaws. However, Pittsburgh's 23.8 percent strikeout rate against lefties offers Matz significant upside.

Vegas likes Matz in this one, too, projecting Pittsburgh for just 3.6 runs -- the fifth-fewest on the slate. There are certainly safer options available today. If you want a low-owned tournament play with big upside, though, Matz is your man.
