Plugging the Gaps: IDP Waiver Wire for Week 4
Darian Stewart, Free Safety
The Denver Broncos use their safeties in much more of a fixed role than other teams. Whereas some teams flip the deep coverage safety and in-the-box, free safety Darian Stewart is the sole deep man of the Denver defense. Free safeties often are on par with cornerbacks in terms of week-to-week volatility: they need a strong passing game throwing downfield for them to gain consistent points. Fortunately for Stewart, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are his next targets in Week 4.
Bucs quarterback Jameis Winston loves to throw, as evidenced by his league-leading 142 passing attempts and sixth-most passing yards per game. He also ranks fourth in the league with a 4.20 percent interception rate on his passes, however, indicating a willingness to take risks that fantasy owners on both sides of the ball appreciate. This will be one of the better chances in the next few weeks for Stewart to earn his first pick of the year, and downfield tackles of wide receiver Mike Evans will help to buoy that interception upside.
Stewart is available in 99.3% of ESPN IDP leagues, and we project him for 4.60 tackles, 0.34 interceptions, 0.24 passes defended, and a total score of 7.44 fantasy points in Week 4.
