5 NFL Stats to Know Through Week 16
Jay Ajayi Rushed for More Than 200 Yards for the Third Time This Season
Jay Ajayi's 206 rushing yards in Week 16 are the third most in a game by any player this season.
The top mark of 236 rushing yards was set by Le'Veon Bell just one week prior, and a running back has topped 200 yards on the ground four times this season. His accomplishment isn't as impressive as you thought then, right?
Wrong.
Besides Bell's 236-yard explosion, Ajayi owns all three of the other 200-yard rushing performances in 2016, making him just the fourth player since 1950 to do so at least three times in a season. The last player to do it was Tiki Barber in 2005. Earl Campbell is the only player to rush for 200 yards four times in one year, which he accomplished in 1980.
Among all running backs with 100-plus carries, Ajayi ranks fourth with 0.09 Rushing NEP per carry. He also ranks sixth among all NFL players with 1,213 rushing yards, which is already good enough for the third-most in a season by any Miami Dolphins running back since 1999.
Ajayi will be up against the New England Patriots this weekend, who have held every opposing running back to less than 90 rushing yards this season.
