One Running Back to Target in Each Round of Your Fantasy Football Draft
Round 3: Ty Montgomery, Green Bay Packers
Average Draft Position: 3.11 (RB16)
In his piece on undervalued players, our own JJ Zachariason gave a sweet tidbit on Ty Montgomery.
In 2016, Ty Montgomery saw at least 40% of Green Bay's snaps in 9 of his 15 games played. In those games, he averaged 7.89 carries, 49.56 rushing yards, 0.33 rushing touchdowns, 5.78 targets, 4.44 receptions, and 36.11 receiving yards per contest In PPR formats, that's roughly 15 fantasy points per outing. That would've made him a top-10 running back last year.
Boom.
There have been rumblings about rookie Jamaal Williams pushing Montgomery for the starting role, which is definitely scary if you're investing this much in a running back. But the team's coaching staff has also heaped praise on Montgomery recently, and Williams worked exclusively with the second team in the Packers' first preseason game.
Monitor this situation throughout the preseason, but if TyMont can secure the workhorse role -- or anything close to it, really -- he's going to have a ton of value in Green Bay's high-octane offense.
