Receiving Market Shares

1. Is Tyler Boyd for Real?

Tyler Boyd started the year with a bang, going for at least 90 yards in three of his first four games. He slowed some from Weeks 5 through 7, but he returned to elite status with a monster game in Week 8, recording 9 catches for 138 yards and a score, coming in as the week's WR4 in PPR.

Boyd has produced like a WR1 -- he's the PPR WR11 for the season, with more points than Julio Jones and JuJu Smith-Schuster -- but will it last?

For the season, Boyd is seeing a 23% target share with a 24% market share of Cincy's air yards. Those aren't elite numbers, with the air yards mark ranking just 46th among wideouts, per airyards.com.

Boyd is being boosted by touchdowns, scoring a touchdown every 13.2 targets. The league average wide receiver this year is scoring on about every 18 targets, and Boyd is doing it while spending a lot of time in the slot, which isn't usually a touchdown-heavy position. So he's got some negative touchdown regression coming.

But it's not like Boyd is going to fall off a cliff, especially if A.J. Green's toe injury proves serious, though he's expected to be fine. This past Sunday, Boyd saw a 30% target share, compared an 18% clip for Green, who got banged up in the game. So if Green is out at all, Boyd profiles as a target hog.

In short, Boyd has been great, but he's unlikely to be this great the rest of the way. Our rest-of-season projections have him as the WR20, so if you can flip him for, say, the aforementioned Smith-Schuster, who our models rank as the WR10, you should jump at the chance.

2. Devante Parker Is Worth Targeting

DeVante Parker has long caused fantasy owners to pull their hair out, with his “breakout” season supposedly on the horizon multiple times. Unfortunately, the hopes of a breakout have ended in bitter disappointment each season.

Could it be different now?

Finally healthy, Parker posted a season-best 134 receiving yards in Week 8, hauling in 6 catches from Brock Osweiler. In that game, Parker saw a team-high 24% target share and 136 air yards, according to airyards.com.

Parker’s consistency and health have been his biggest problems, but right now, the Miami Dolphins don't have many other options. So even with Osweiler as his quarterback, Parker could end up being a solid option the rest of the way as a player who is likely to see a decent amount of downfield looks.
