Chiefs reportedly pick up Patrick Mahomes' option
The Kansas City Chiefs exercised quarterback Patrick Mahomes' fifth-year option for 2021, reports Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.
Duh. The only question is when the Chiefs will offer Mahomes an inevitable long-term extension that makes him the highest-paid player in the history of the NFL. He has 10 more passing touchdowns (76) than anyone else in the league over the past two seasons. He also has the second-most passing yards per game (304.3) in that span. Mahomes turns 25 in September.
Mahomes averaged 20.9 FanDuel points (QB6) and 287.9 passing yards per game with 26 touchdowns and 5 interceptions. His average depth of target (8.8 yards) ranked 10th out of 42 quarterbacks with at least 100 attempts. He led all quarterbacks with at least 500 attempts in numberFire's advanced per-play passing metric.
