3 FanDuel Premier League Under-the-Radar Plays for Matchweek 6
Jamie Vardy, Forward, Leiciester City
Salary: $9,000
After a slow start to the season that included a three-game suspension and only a single goal, the 2018 version of the Vardy Party is off to a slow start. At a salary of $9,000, Vardy is priced slightly below Wilfried Zaha ($9,500) and slightly above Callum Wilson ($8,500), two players who have had good starts to the season. Their popularity should draw any ownership at this price range away from Vardy, despite his position as a home favorite on a team with the highest implied goal total among the non-elite sides.
Vardy's slow start to the season is unlikely to continue. Over the past three seasons, he has been a prolific goal scorer, netting 57 times, with 32 of them coming at home. As a team, Leicester has done well at home this season, with a two-goal victory over Wolves and a narrow one-goal defeat to Liverpool. At +110 (47%), Vardy has the same odds to score as Romelu Lukaku ($11,500) and Sadio Mane ($10,500), but he should carry a fraction of their ownership.
Against non-elite sides, Huddersfield have actually been decent this season, allowing only two goals total to Cardiff, Everton, and Crystal Palace. Despite a loss, Huddersfield actually outshot Crystal Palace last weekend and controlled the majority of possession. That marked a massive improvement from their previous four matches, but it remains to be seen if they can continue that same form on the road. Even if they do, Huddersfield moving forward instead of sitting back and conceding possession could benefit a counter-attacking striker like Vardy.
